The fire test of the BINBIN Globular

The fire test on the BINBIN Globulars

Why this fire test?

We’ve been receiving more and more questions from our customers about the fire safety of our waste bins. To provide a solid answer, we decided to conduct a thorough fire test. This test focused specifically on our steel waste bins with bamboo lids. The goal was simple: to ensure that our products are safe for you and your environment.

How did the test work?
Maarten de Graaf, our Product Developer, visited Efectis in Bleiswijk. Efectis has been a recognized laboratory for fire testing for over 70 years and boasts highly advanced technical testing facilities. Their labs are so well-equipped that they can meet all types of requests, from the simplest to the most complex tests.

Three waste bins, three tests
To ensure the consistency of the test results, they tested three waste bins. Each bin was placed against the fire on a different side. This gave us a complete picture of how our bins perform under various conditions.

The fire test

Have you ever wondered how fire-safe our BINBIN Globular waste bins are? We’ve got the answer for you! To ensure our waste bins meet the highest safety standards, we carried out an extensive fire test. And the results are impressive!

The classification system

European classification system

The fire test was conducted according to the European classification system outlined in EN 13501-1. The entire waste bin was tested. The desired classification was D or better. The classification is based on the results of two specific tests:

  • EN 13823: Conducting the Single Burning Item (SBI) test.
  • EN ISO 11925-2: Determination of ignitability.

The result
We’re proud to announce that our waste bins qualified for a B classification. This means they are “nearly non-flammable.” During the test, a large flame was directed at the bin for 21 minutes, and our bins held their ground! Over time, the powder coating began to scorch, and the bamboo lid also scorched but did not catch fire. It was simply blackened

What does this mean?
The B classification is an outstanding achievement. It means our waste bins are highly resistant to flames and contribute to the overall fire safety of the environment in which they are placed. This is especially important in spaces where fire safety is a priority, such as offices, schools, healthcare facilities, and other (public) buildings.
