A Sustainable Steel Base
The base of the bin is made of steel. We chose steel because 88% of the world’s steel is made from recycled steel. So, we start with a sustainable product right from the beginning! The steel arrives in the form of a massive roll. Using a laser cutter, we cut sheets to the exact size needed. The steel roll is used as efficiently as possible, leaving minimal waste. The sheets are cut to match the size of the ordered bins. This is a very precise task because later, the lid must fit perfectly on the bin.
Every Part Counts
At the same time, all the other components of your bin(s) are produced. The bin consists of ring holders, hinges, partitions, and, of course, the front, back, and bottom. All these parts are welded together to create one sturdy whole. The bottom and partitions ensure the strength of the bin
Powder Coating for a Stylish Look
The next step is powder coating the waste bins in the chosen color. We wait until we have enough bins of the same color to coat at once. The coating room is made completely dust-free for each color, so just like in a printing house, we want to coat as many bins of the same color in one go. It’s crucial that the bin is 100% degreased before coating. Only when the steel is fully grease-free can we begin coating. We use sustainable powder coating because it creates a strong protective layer on the bins. Plus, powder coating is much more environmentally friendly than spray paint. Now, your BINBIN waste bin starts to take on that Dutch Design look!

The BINBIN accessory
Our BINBIN waste bins don’t have a regular lid; they have a “hat.” The hat is made by our hat maker from bamboo wood. The bamboo wood is cut from sheets, and just like the bin, we have highly precise production drawings for this. The cutting is fully automated with a CNC machine (computer numerical control machine), ensuring all hats are exactly the same size and fit perfectly on the bins produced elsewhere in Europe. The hats receive a durable lacquer coating since the bins need to last for years! We consciously chose bamboo because:
We’ve also started making hats from plastic bottle caps, in collaboration with WasteCraft. And even BlueWrap (hospital packaging material) can be transformed into sturdy hats. Do you have a waste stream you don’t know what to do with? Maybe we can turn it into a hat!
Bamboo Offcuts
When cutting the bamboo sheets, some waste material is always left over. Our manufacturer saves these bamboo scraps, which are eventually turned into chipboard, MDF, or OSB. Even the sawdust is collected and used as fuel for the factory. As you’ve probably noticed, we’re not fans of wasting raw materials!
Check, Check, Double Check!
When your bin is ready, we check that everything has been done correctly. The entire production process involves hands-on work, so we like to give it one final check.
Did you choose for full assembly of the bin? Then we’ll quickly get to work attaching everything in the right place. The magnetic stickers are applied to the bin, the fraction stencils are packed into the molds, and the lids are screwed on. All done? Your bin is on its way to you!
