BINSPIRATIONS

Viktor & Rolf

What is Viktor & Rolf?

It is an avant-garde luxury fashion house founded in 1993 by fashion designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren after they graduated from the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design.

Their mission

They want to design fashion that embodies conceptual glamour, provocative couture and unexpected elegance. Viktor & Rolf present their haute couture collection during Paris Fashion Week, which they consider their laboratory for creative experimentation. Binspiration would like to highlight one particular haute couture collection, namely Vagabond’s Autumn/Winter 2016, which used carefully selected fabrics and garments from previous seasons. Their designs are often characterised by bold and exaggerated silhouettes, intricate craftsmanship and innovative use of materials. They have gained international recognition for their artistic creations that combine fashion and art.

What makes Viktor & Rolf sustainable?

With their Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, they reused and recycled materials. Their Autumn/Winter 2016 collection was titled “Vagabonds.” It showcased their signature artistic and conceptual style with a focus on recycling and reusing materials. The collection took a unique approach by incorporating selected fabrics and garments from previous seasons, giving them new life and meaning. The designers themselves put it best: “We look at the past in a new light and use it as a springboard for the new, the more sustainable. Recycling is therefore used as a means of expression rather than an end in itself, reflecting a thoughtful attitude and a focus on conscious design.”
